Cometh the Xmas n what’s it without some cake and wine. We bring to everyone our Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan Cake which has a serendipitous delicious story. Moreover, it’s not just tasty but highly nutritious as well.

The team was trying to imitate your run-of-the-mill raw vegan cream cake with increased nutrition value without adding a bunch more heaviness. So they chose to add a mix of Spirulina along with chia seeds. Team had figured Spirulina with chia could multi-task and work to thicken up the batter too, since chia seeds plump up with liquids and make a kinda-super-food pudding. Well, thank goodness it worked. When we took the cake out of the freezer, sliced a few pieces and tasted it, the most pleasing surprise was texture.

The cake was light and fluffy just like marshmallows! Not nearly as sweet, because we prefer to leave desserts au natural and not add too much sweetness, but the next immediate thought: this is the bad boy marshmallow cake or Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan Cake.

Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan Cake

MARSHMALLOW CREAM CAKE [VEGAN, RAW, GLUTEN-FREE]

SERVES

     8-12

INGREDIENTS

Crust:

  • 1 cup dry quinoa
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar

Mint layer:

  • 1 cup raw cashews, soaked in water for 3 hours then rinsed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/6 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/6 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 2-3 teaspoons Spirulina powder, as desired
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds

Vanilla layer:

  • 1 1/6 cups raw cashews, soaked in water for 3 hours then rinsed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/6 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pink layer:

  • 1 cup raw cashews, soaked in water for 3 hours then rinsed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/6 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup red beet, peeled and sliced thinly

PREPARATION of Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan Cake

To make the crust:

  1. Rinse the quinoa for a minute under cold water. Grind the quinoa into very fine flour in a high speed blender, then in a bowl, mix together the flour with the coco oil and sugar until you get a dough-like mixture. Press into the bottom of a cake pan. We used an adjustable cake pan set to around 7 inches across. Put in the fridge.

To make each layer:

  1. Simply blend all the ingredients – except the chia seeds – in each list together until smooth, then stir in the chia seeds at the end. The texture before adding the chia seeds should be like yogurt. If any of them are too thick, add 1 or 2 more tablespoons of water. If too thin, add more cashews or coconut oil. Pour in the green layer over your crust, then white, then pink. We later sprinkled the Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan cake with white sesame seeds and more chia seeds.
  2. Keep the cake in the fridge for 24 hours so the flavors can get to know each other. It’s easiest to slice when it’s been in the freezer for about 40 minutes before cutting.

Have a wonderful Christmas with the nutritious Spirulina Chia Marshmallow Vegan Cake.

NOTES

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • You can use rolled oats or buckwheat oats instead of quinoa.
  • Use any other nut instead of cashews, but they should be raw and preferably organic.
  • Use coconut butter or cocoa butter instead of coconut oil.
  • Use date paste or any other natural sweetener instead of coconut sugar.
  • Use berries instead of beet.

Spirulina art

Since day 1, we have been educating about benefits of Prodiet Spirulina. The team also shared a few recipes with Spirulina being the main ingredient. We can keep ranting on about the benefits of this superfood. But, you also need to be aware of How to choose the brand, what precautions to take and what issues to be aware of.

How to take Spirulina

You understand how beneficial “Prodiet” Spirulina is to health and in terms of nutrients provided. Though, it may be expensive, and fit outside of the mould of traditional food, the reality is that it’s difficult to ignore how Spirulina can be a life-balancer. Not touted as a complete replacement for your food, but you should integrate “Prodiet” Spirulina into your diet as a prime supplement.

Understanding the dosage and the way to ingest, would help you get most out of it. Don’t guess, folks at New Age Nutrition are here to help.  The best way to start taking Spirulina is to mix it with food items. Spirulina is amazing superfood, but you may not necessarily love the taste of raw powder and its pungent smell.

Therefore, mix it in smoothies, add it to soups or dips to get start building the liking for taste. Thereafter, you could start making variations of energy globes, or protein bars or Spirulina patties.

Some sources promote high doses of Spirulina for any positive effect, but that’s not true. You will easily benefit from 1-2 teaspoons per day.

How to Choose best

You should really do your homework to be an educated customer. It makes sense because there are plenty of companies wanting to get onto Spirulina bandwagon. There are many products on offer as  blends, which we feel may fall short of giving out the complete benefit

The first tip is to find the right brand of Spirulna is to go with pure product and not a blend. If a product says it “features” Spirulina, then don’t buy it unless you are trying to develop a taste. You want plain pure Spirulina. We at New Age Nutrition offer natural Spirulina powder.

The second tip is avoid Spirulina from Japan or nearby areas as the potential pollutant levels could be high. Find a brand, which has its farms based in tropical belts (more sun and clear water) with their processes followed are not industrial but more natural.

Ask informed questions to brands/firms. If the brand is reputable, they will list everything or provide information privately to help you choose.

Precautions

Though, you may enjoy adding it to your diet and avail the health benefits, don’t overdo it.  Taking proper dosage that is 1-2 teaspoons per day is recommended.  Going over that may upset stomach or some adverse effects. Also you have to be careful about where your Spirulina comes from because it absorbs materials where it is grown. Make sure that it’s a natural product if not organic and never a blend.

Take time when you begin taking Spirulina because you should wait to see how your body will react.

Gradually increase your intake in small quantities to the recommended dosage.  A few of our customers have mentioned that they experienced prolonged hiccups for a day. A very few experienced a feverish feel.  If you have sea-food allergy, please avoid these algae. If you have other health problems, do consult with doctors before taking Spirulina. Pregnant women should only take Spirulina with advice of their doctors.

Conclusion!

Its only natural to feel skeptical that just one food supplement can offer so many benefits, but facts speak for themselves. There’s a reason, that Spirulina has grown in popularity and risen to Superfood Status. Even, if you turn to Spirulina only for Protein needs, it will impart various other health benefits in ways you may not have imagined. So start embracing Spirulina in your everyday like and see how you grow better and save yourself the trouble of visiting doctors often.

The Smoothie Algo

Prodiet Smoothie Algo

The team at New Age Nutrition has been searching for delicious & healthy break for mornings. Mornings are the ideal time to rejuvenate your body with healthy and nutritious stuff. And what better way than to gulp through nutritious smoothie based on our Prodiet Spirulina.

We were trying various combinations with different greens, nuts, fruits & veggies. The search led us to create an algorithm sort of recipe for Smoothies. One may vary the ingredients, however, the steps and subsets remain more or less same. Follow the steps and make your own version of Spirulina Smoothies.

Steps to achieve glassful of healthy Spirulina smoothie

Step 1. Start with greens, a handful of kale or spinach or a scoop of raw green Prodiet Spirulina.

Step 2.  Add a fruit like carrot, banana or berries for adding anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins.

Step 3. Choose a fiber – from hemp , chia or watermelon seeds and keep things moving.

Step 4. Include a protein – Prodiet Spirulina, Nut butter, or any other Protein supplement.

Step 5. Choose fat with lower cholestrol from coconut, avocado or flax.

Step 6. Add liquid from coconut water, almond milk, green tea or lime zest.

Step 7. Get a boost from Apple cider, minced ginger, pomegranate.

Blend all ingredients and add some stevia for the sweetness. You have a glassful of healthy Smoothie within minutes.

Nutrition value of Prodiet at a glance

Presented here is a brief recap of nutrition value of Prodiet Spirulina. For every 100 grams of Prodiet Spirulina, there are 60~70 grams of protein, a total of 290 calories. Compare that to 100 grams of animal food and you will only find 26 grams of protein within 250 calories. However, you won’t be making spirulina patties anytime soon. 100 grams of spirulina may be equal to quarter  a bottle, depending on how it is sold. But a small teaspoon of spirulina can add upto 4 grams of protein to your shake.

Vitamin breakdown: Thiamine, Riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron,  zinc, beta-carotene, and chlorophyll. There are many other vitamins present, albeit in much smaller quantities. Its an all natural, powerhouse supplement that’s great for immunity and detoxifying the body.

Why we prefer to go Smoothie way?

Spirulina is kind of treated as a add-on to recipes. Most online recipes seem to incorporate just a toss of spirulina, under-utilizing its flavor. It is a tricky food since it tends to make everything bright green. The fastest and perhaps easiest way to get it in your system is to mix a teaspoon with a cup of almond milk or orange juice. Benefits galore, we are now believing in “A teaspoon of Spirulina a day, will keep the doctor away”.

Let us know, if you tried any variants of this! keep out an eye for Patties recipe soon.
