spirulina in spoons

Unbelievable Reasons to use Spirulina daily

You might have heard about Spirulina but thought that this was something that only health nuts got into. Maybe you though Spirulina was a new rock band. Then again, maybe you’ve never heard of Spirulina.

In case you haven’t heard, Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae. This is an incredible super food that provides humans with a super concentrated source of antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients. Spirulina is perhaps one of the oldest forms of life on this planet and was used for food as far back as the 9th century in Chad and was consumed by the Aztecs in 16th century Mexico.

Why should you consume Spirulina? We have 11 almost unbelievable reasons and after you read them, you will understand what all the fuss is about.

Highly Digestible

The protein in Spirulina is 90 percent digestible, since it does not have cellulose walls such as chlorella or yeast. This means that the net protein utilization of Spirulina is a ridiculously high 61 percent and it requires no cooking to increase this bioavailability. Confused? This simply means that your body will be able to use almost all of the protein in Spirulina, which isn’t true of any other protein.

Extremely High In Nutrients

Spirulina grows in both fresh and salt water and is often called blue-green algae. Like plants, Spirulina produces energy from sunlight and is so nutritious, NASA is considering growing it in space so it can be consumed by astronauts. Most people consume between 1 to 3 grams but even 10 grams each day can be consumed with no problems. One tablespoon (about 7 grams) has 4 grams of protein, vitamin B1, B2, B3, copper, and iron. It also has decent amounts of potassium, manganese, and magnesium. Spirulina also has a good ratio and quantity of omega-3 and omeg-6 fatty acids.  It also has small amounts of almost every nutrient that the human body needs. This makes this blue green algae one of the most nutritious foods in the world.

Improves Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal passages. It can be stimulated by environmental allergens such as wheat dust, pollen, even animal hair. Spirulina has been shown to be a popular alternative treatment that is very effective. One study involving 127 people with allergic rhinitis had dramatically reduced symptoms, such as sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and nasal discharge after consuming just 2 grams of Spirulina each day.

Helps with Diabetes

Studies done involving animals have shown that these algae can significantly lower blood sugar levels. In fact, some studies showed that Spirulina outperformed commonly used diabetes drugs, including Metformin. One study that involved 25 diabetic patients. These subjects were given 2 grams of Spirulina each day and all subjects had drastically reduced blood sugar levels. Now these were small studies and more work needs to be done in this area, so before you stop taking your medication, talk to your doctor first.

Powerful Protection from Disease

Oxidative damage can cause serious damage to our DNA and cells. This damage is a main driver for the development of chronic inflammation, which is the underlying cause of many chronic diseases, including cancer. Spirulina is a super source of antioxidants, which fight the free radicals that cause oxidative damage. One active ingredient is called phycocyanin. This is another antioxidant that fights free radicals and inhibits inflammation in the body. It is also what gives Spirulina its beautiful blue-green color!

Fights Malnutrition

Spirulina grows wild in lakes of Africa and Mexico, although it is also commercially grown and harvested world-wide. Spirulina reproduces quickly and is super easy to harvest. Japan is the largest producer of Spirulina, as well as the largest consumer. India, however, is a close second. This food is so nutritionally dense that the European Space Agency and NASA is researching into the benefits of adding these algae into their astronaut’s diet. Research has shown that children who consumed a Spirulina supplement 5 days a week over an 8 week period had an improved nutritional status and intellect when compared to those who did not consume Spirulina. This means Spirulina can be used to fight malnutrition throughout the globe.

Lowers Cholesterol Levels

Heart disease is currently the biggest killer in the US and many other countries. One of the main factors contributing to heart disease is LDL (the bad type) of cholesterol. Spirulina has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and even total cholesterol levels while increasing HDL (the good) cholesterol levels. In one study that involved 25 persons with diabetes, giving them 2 grams of Spirulina improved their overall cholesterol levels. Yet another study involving those who had high cholesterol levels showed that when they were given just 1 gram of these algae each day that it lowered their LDL levels by 10 percent and their triglyceride levels by 16 percent.

       More About Cholesterol

Spirulina has been shown to protect our LDL cholesterol from becoming oxidized. Since the fatty structures in our body are extremely susceptible to oxidative damage, which is one of the major causes of chronic disease, knowing that consuming Spirulina can offer us some protection is yet another reason to add these algae to our diets. One of the steps towards heart disease is the LDL lipoproteins in our blood becoming oxidized. The antioxidants in Spirulina reduce lipid oxidation. This has been proven in several tests, both in animal and human studies.

Improves Endurance and Muscle Strength

One of the contributors to muscle fatigue is exercise induced oxidative damage. Spirulina can help in this area, improving both muscle strength and endurance levels. In two separate studies, this algae was shown to improve endurance and greatly increase the amount of time it took for these subjects to become fatigued. Check our article on Spirulina being the driving force in breaking records in Sports and Olympics.

Fights Anemia

Although there are many different types of anemia, the most common type involves a reduction in red blood cells in the blood. Anemia is common in the elderly and in many women of childbearing age. Anemia often leads to feelings of weakness and/or fatigue. One study, involving 40 older people who had a history of anemia, showed that giving them Spirulina supplements daily increased their red blood cell counts. It also improved their immune function

Reduces Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is the driving force behind many serious diseases including strokes, heart attacks, heart disease, and kidney disease. In studies done with persons who had normal blood pressure levels, it was found that 4.5 grams of Spirulina each day reduced blood pressure levels. Although there do not appear to be studies involving humans who had high blood pressure, it does appear that Spirulina can lower blood pressure levels. If you have hypertension, always consult your doctor before stopping your medication or before consuming Spirulina.

Contains Anti-Cancer Compounds

There have been some studies that show that Spirulina has anti-cancer compounds, especially when it comes to oral cancer. Research done involving animals shows that Spirulina reduced tumor size and cancer reoccurrence. Another study that was done in India used 87 persons who had precancerous lesions, called OSMF, of the mouth. After giving these subjects 1 gram of Spirulina each day over a 1 year period, 45 percent of those who consumed this alga had complete regression in their lesions when compared to only 7 percent of the control group. It’s interesting to note that when these subjects stopped consuming Spirulina, almost half of these subjects found that the lesions returned within one year.

Spirulina is also a powerful detoxifier, so if you decide to start taking it, start off small and gradually increase your dose. Some people do find that they are sensitive to this type of algae, so if you have any health problems or if you are under a doctor’s care, if you are pregnant or if you are taking any type of prescription medication, consult your doctor before consuming Spirulina.

The study among 20 malnourished children in the age group of six years, supplementation of Spirulina at 1g/day for three months showed that there was an increase in serum haemoglobin level and serum protein (1). Change in the academic performance and intelligence level of the children was also seen in the Spirulina supplemented group.

A follow-up study among 146 malnourished children for a period of one year indicated that apart from the increase in serum protein and serum albumin level, most of the clinical symptoms like pale conjunctiva showing higher incidence of anemia, and symptoms like fever, cough, eye and skin infection were reduced after the Spirulina supplementation.

Improvement of Vitamin- A Status:

Spirulina feeding among 5000 rural pre-school children with 1g/day reduced the prevalence of Bitot’s spot and prevented the occurrence of severe form of Vitamin A deficiency – Corneal xerosis. Spirulina supplementation increased the serum retinol levels and reduced the prevalence of B complex deficiency in the preschool children.

In another study among preschool children of 3-5 years of age, supplementation of Spirulina at 2g/day for a period of 30 days revealed that the bioavailability of carotenes from Spirulina was comparable to other plant sources. Increase in serum betacarotene level from deficient level to a range close to normal individual level was seen in a study among 30 pre-school children with the supplementation of Spirulina at 2g/day for a period of 30days.

Studies on Spirulina for children world wide:

Mexico – Spirulina was given to undernourished children in Mexico, and adults with beneficial results. It was more than 10% of their diet and no adverse effects were noted. In Togo, rapid recovery of malnourished infants was reported in a village clinic. Children given 12-15gms per day mixed with millet, water and spices, recovered in few weeks.

Romania – Tablets were given to patients with nutritional deficiencies in a Bucharest municipal hospital. Patients had suffered weight loss in conjunction with chronic pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, anaemia, diabetes and other symptoms. The patients gained weight and their health improved.

Chernobyl – The children of Chernobyl suffered radiation poisoning from eating food grown on radioactive soil. Their bone marrow was damaged, rendering them immuno-deficient. Radiation damaged bone marrow cannot produce normal red or white blood cells. The children were anaemic and suffered from terrible allergic reactions. Children were fed just five grams in tablets each day made dramatic recoveries within six weeks. As little as ten grams a day brought rapid recovery from malnutrition, especially for infants.

China – Spirulina is prescribed at Nanjing Children’s Hospital as a “baby nourishing formula” with baked barley sprouts. 27 of 30 children aged two to six recovered in a short period from bad appetite, night sweat, diarrhea and constipation. The researchers concluded this is a genuine health food for children. In another study, children deficient in the essential mineral zinc, made more rapid recovery with high zinc Spirulina than a standard zinc supplement

Join the Superhero trend

be a part of Superhero triend with a Superfood Spirulina. Spirulina is an algae (perfect for vegetarians and vegans) that is completely full of all kind of vitamins and minerals. It was once a staple food for people living in the early Americas and Africa, but most people don’t have it in their diet today. However, you can easily add it with a supplement like Prodiet Spirulina!

How is superfood Spirulina

Spirulina has a lot of protein, high levels of chlorophyll (which supports healthy blood), essential fatty acids, iron, 8 essential amino-acids, enzymes, antioxidants, and much more.

And it’s really easy to digest which makes it perfect for everyone, and especially people with difficulty absorbing nutrients. This includes people with inflammatory bowel diseases and similar problems, and sometimes people who are just a little sick.

Scientific studies on Superfood Spirulina

With every required nutrient in it, no wonder studies have shown the multiple benefits of using Spirulina.  One study shows Spirulina is beneficial for blood lipid profiles, yet another reports that it helps in fight inflammation.

Yet another reports published that Spirulina is beneficial for people with diabetes.  Check how Spirulina supports the immune system by stimulating antibodies and increasing the number of defensive cells.

Spirulina is so super dense in nutrients that it even got included in the diet of astronauts to help ensure they have all the nutrition they need. And since health is a huge priority for astronauts, that’s a pretty big stamp of approval.

Whether you’re looking for more iron, better nutritional balance, support for diabetes or heart health or any of the other potential benefits of spirulina, you can harness them with Prodiet Spirulina.

Here are the top 10 (of many) reasons why our team believes can be a superhero with Spirulina

  1. Weight loss– by correcting nutritional deficiencies & improving insulin sensitivity it supports healthy metabolism and energy levels. Due to its complete amino acid profile, it gives you a feeling of satiety and make you feel fuller if consumed before meals.
  2. Anti-ageing– Poor diet, lifestyle, pollution, infections can all cause a rise in free radicals in the body. Therefore, the result is cellular damage causing premature aging, wrinkles, bad skin, black rings under the eyes and sometimes serious illnesses. However, Spirulina can help you tackle this head on with high amounts of antioxidants.
  3. Stress Less– Densely-packed with magnesium, it supports the nervous system and lower stress levels and muscle spasm.
  4. Anti-cancer– Prodiet Spirulina is the richest source of Beta Carotene, an important antioxidant. This can help neutralise free radicals, that cause tumors and cancers.
  5. Reduces side effects of hangover– it keeps your liver healthy by reducing inflammation and buildup of triglycerides, and helps with detoxification. It takes a load off your liver if you are a regular drinker. If you plan on having a night out with the girls/guys, make sure you drink a full bottle of water with spirulina to avoid a nasty side effects of hangovers. It works! Some of team members swear by that it helps in avoiding hangover completely.
  6. Detoxifying– Detoxing is becoming a popular trend, Spirulina’s popularity is not surprising. Using this powerful green powder is a gentle and safe way of removing toxins from the body while adding vital minerals and vitamins. Do go through our blog on use of Spirulina as a detoxing agent.
  7. Decreased appetite– Spirulina due to its high protein content (55-70%) can keep you full if you drink before meals (always wait 20-30 minutes to eat). Being a single walled, the proteins are easy to decompose and readily absorbed by the body.
  8. Glowing skin– The stress levels of modern living, pollution accompanied with poor lifestyle and diet tend to increase the amount of free radicals in the body. However,,Spirulina can help you fight this by neutralizing free radicals and rejuvenate your cells from the inside out.
  9. Alkalinity– We consume a lot of acidic food. Acidity inside body breeds bacteria/virus and increases our chances of getting infection or disease. Spirulina is alkaline and counters the acidic foods, it will help raise the pH level. This eventually will lead to better bone mass and improved metabolic functions.
  10. Avoid Nutrients deficiency– It is one of the highest nutrient dense foods, and can fill up any deficiencies in your diet. Great supplement for vegetarians as it has the highest protein content (by weight) containing 50-70% protein and all essential amino acids.

Are you on your path to be a Superhero. We will help you in attaining you goal with Superfood Spirulina. Do you agree with our top 10 reasons or are there different ones?

Weight Loss with Spirulina

weight loss with Spirulina

First thing you should know that there is no simple way to lose weight.  Indeed, you should not expect that you can just eat something, and then result is weight loss. If it was as easy as buying pills, there would be no obesity. Think of it, why no pharmacies sell pill for weight loss? Is Weight loss with Spirulina real or a myth?

All you need is to eat less and do the cardio-vascular exercises, and that’s the only way it works. We are not going to explain why exercising is a must but we will surely explain how weight loss with Spirulina is possible.

The effect of spirulina

Now what is the effect of spirulina? Spirulina actually reduces the appetite and elevates your energy level. However this relationship is still indirect, because the reduced appetite does not necessary mean reduced consumption of food. Nor does it mean, that elevated energy level necessarily leads you to actually start doing more exercises.

Many people just like to eat food because it tastes good, not because they’re hungry. So even a reduced appetite will not have an effect on them. Some people would even vomit as they eat and eat, but that would not stop them from eating more. Or just as another example, lets suppose you are a factory worker, and you’re being provided with a regular size meal. If you have a reduced appetite would you actually start throwing away a portion of that meal?

Unless you are in control of your eating habits, the weight loss would be almost impossible, no matter how costly your gadgets and supplements are.  However, if you are serious and ready to change things, the spirulina can help and actually contribute to weight loss.

Will Spirulina consumption work?

Nowadays, it’s not so easy to keep up the right diet – the nutritional value of consumed food is often imbalanced, and as a result our body keeps craving for more. This is especially true for the fast foods as they provide almost nothing but fat and preservatives – and what a nice combination of misery it is!

Now if we take Spirulina, the body can get the additional nutrients it requires, for not only the spirulina is rich in vitamins and essential pigments, but has also a very high protein content. Protein is capable to satisfy hunger better than either carbs of fat. So a protein diet also appears effective for weight management. However, unlike the hard tissues of any other protein, the simple cells of Spirulina can dissolve in water. And thereby all its protein can be easily digested just within several minutes. This is how the consumption of spirulina immediately results in a reduced appetite or food craving and can help you to manage your weight.

Keep in mind that the best way of consumption would be on empty stomach, about 15-30 minutes before the lunch. If you take it right before the lunch, you will hardly notice any appetite reduction. Taking it post lunch will not render any great effects on weight loss.

Also Spriulina  elevates your energy levels, it may bring you an additional boost during your cardio workouts. And this extra punch of workout can help you to burn fat more effectively. And in the end it brags to have a great advantage over coffee, tea and other tonics, because it does not cause the side effect inherent to them. Indeed unlike other tonics, that give only temporary boost, and then eventually make you feel weak, the energizing effect of spirulina is consistent and yet, has no known drawbacks.

More healthy reasons of Weight loss with Spirulina

The above mentioned reasons are not the only ones that you should start taking “Prodiet” Spirulina. Our research also led us to believe that Spirulina being super dense in nutrient concentration can not only help with weight loss but also increase immunity and boost your energy.

High Nutrient Content

Often, when one feels hungry, body is causing the effect as it is looking to fill its own need for nutrients. When you take poor-quality foods, your brain will trigger your appetite in an effort to find what it needs. Taking Spirulina will increase the concentration of nutrients in your body and may reduce hunger and cravings in the process.

Low in Calories

Spirulina supplies only 3.5 calories for each gram of protein according to This is one of the least calories you can gain for any gram of protein, even marginally better than famous protein powders like whey. A standard 500 mg tablet of Spirulina only has less than two calories. Regular consumption of spirulina will provide you with a good portion of your daily nutritional needs, without any caloric consequences.

Reduces Blood Sugar levels

A diet high in processed foods and sugary snacks causes blood sugar levels to rise quickly. The pancreas  releases the hormone insulin which helps cells absorb the glucose and store the excess as fat. If your blood glucose levels are elevated, you cannot lose weight. Balancing your blood sugar levels is essential for healthy weight loss.

Spirulina is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids, and GLA.  GLA helps regulate your blood sugar and control insulin levels, which will in turn minimize carbohydrate binging and help you lose weight. A study published in Journal of Medicinal Food found that regular supplementation of Spirulina (2g a day for 2 months) reduced blood glucose levels even in Type 2 diabetics.

Spirulina Boosts Energy

Spirulina is a great supplement for workouts. It contains vitamins b1, b2, b3 and b5 which are essential for transforming food into energy. It also contains high levels  of B6, which helps insulin to work effectively.

A  study published in European Journal of Applied physiology found that supplementing Spirulina (2.5g three times per day for 3 weeks) in healthy individual increased endurance performance. More energy, more exercise, more weight loss.

Our Conclusion

So is weight loss with Spirulina a myth? Well just as anything else that promotes a fast weight loss is probably a myth, because the accumulation and burning of fat simply doesn’t work that way. However, if you are really concerned about your weight, do take a step further to actually care about your diet. Start doing cardiovascular exercises – then Prodiet Spirulina will definitely help. Why don’t you go ahead, buy our Supplement (at reduced prices) and come back after two months to tell success stories.

ultramarathon with spirulina

Ultramarathon : Is Spirulina creating raves?

Athletes engaged in ultramarathon have achieved a mythical status among endurance runners. These top athletes do not garner much attention from the press. And people will only recognize ultramarathon runners as marathon runners with an “ultra-” appended.

Ultramarathon : extreme sport

So, in practical terms, what is an ultramarathon? There are all types of extreme sport events, generally designed to be extremely harsh. The limits of physical human capacity are pushed back at every race.

Take the Badwater endurance run in the US: 217 kilometers in the Valley of Death, with a total vertical drop of 5,800 metres and temperatures exceeding 50°C . Scott Jurek, like many others, failed to complete the challenge a few times. However, later he actually won it twice.

… for which nutritional strategies take an utmost importance

Extreme athletic endeavors require specific nutritional strategies. The human body is pushed to its physical limits and diet quality will have a major impact on performance.

Nutrition Strategies

Trying to engage in ultramarathon eating only pizzas or steaks may have seemed like a good strategy few years back. Of course, the ugly consequences of such an unbalanced diet takes its toll. When undergoing such physical exertion, nutrition is of critical importance. A winning runner isn’t only a runner that claims victory during one single race but an athlete that minimizes inflammation, the risk of injury and improves post-effort recovery, thus minimizing the demands on his strained body.

The current trend is to favour foods with low inflammatory or even anti-inflammatory properties – many major endurance runners are even full-blown vegans. In any case, Spirulina is also a trendy sports supplement.

Growing rage of Spirulina in Athletes

This choice is that of Scott Jurek or Brendan Brazier, two uncontested legends of ultramarathon running. They take Spirulina and boast its merits, which is a rather good sign of Spirulina efficiency.

French ultramarathon runner Seb Chaigneau is also a consumer of Spirulina. He conquered the top rank at the Olympus Marathon as well as the Lybian Challenge, twice – running 196 kilometres in the desert in complete self-sufficiency, in non-stop of course!

My favourite example however, one that gives us the impression that we could each one day emerge as an exceptional athlete, is Rich Roll. This American athlete went from couch potato to runner of the Epic 5 in only six months. Epic 5? The idea is do toil through an Ultraman run –swimming 10 km in the open sea, biking 421 km cross-country and running 84 km on foot– five times in a single week!

I am of course not saying there is a cause-to-effect relationship but there probably was a bit of Spirulina  in such a feat!

Ultramarathon Spirulina Nutrition

study performed on nine runners – asked to run at 75% VO2 max for two hours followed by 95% VO2 max to exhaustion. The runners were tested with a placebo and after using spirulina. Results show an average 30 percent longer run when supplmented with Spirulina. An increase in fat oxidation and decrease in carbohydrate oxidation was also noted. These findings suggest that spirulina supports the body’s ability to preserve glycogen stores and utilize fat for energy more efficiently. Spirulina also reduced oxidative damage and promoted antioxidant activity after exercise.

Apart from potential performance gain, spirulina is a great source of nutrition. The health benefits gained from its nutritional composition are many to include it in regular diet.

Is the runner in you excited to try our Prodiet SpirulinaDrop us a message for 3 day sample!

Do you know Spirulina can help in this cause?

 Does Spirulina help against H1N1?

The questions lurks what is the way to protect family and self from H1N1 virus? To find answer one must look into why Influenza A ( H1N1 ) attacks all age groups? It’s an easy reason to guess –

  • Younger adults don’t maintain a balanced diet due to hectic lifestyle which reduces their immunity.
  • Immune system of children and elders are not at par to counter viral infection

What if we told you there is a simple solution to safeguard ourselves: Prodiet Spirulina

According to a report in Journal of Medicinal food, acidic condition of body makes it prone to virus attacks.  But yet, such a viral attack can be averted by use of Spirulina. Spirulina changes the pH of body into healthy alkaline state along with strengthening immune system. Moreover, Spirulina is a powerhouse of nutrients which makes it a potent food to fight infections and viruses. Some specific studies reveal that Spirulina is also helpful in controlling H1N1 infection.

Our daily food consists mainly of 100% acid-forming food like seafood, rice, noodles etc which is very unhealthy. High acidity in body reduces the activity of immune cells besides making an environment which harbours virus growth. Therefore, we should aim for food which renders alkalinity in body to have sustained good health.

 Why Spirulina helps against H1N1?

  • SPIRULINA is an alkaline food with potent array of beneficial nutrients.
  • It has all the essential amino acids and 10 of the 12 non-essential amino acids.
  • It is easily digestible, assimilated and bio-available.
  • Many studies prove Spirulina’s efficacy on health, including boosting body’s immune system against various illnesses, infections & chronic diseases.
  • Spirulina is an abundant source of phycocyanin (7-8%), a potent health-building pigment.
  • Phycocyanin helps produce stem cells, giving Spirulina a rejuvenating and energizing effect.
  • Phycocyanin inhibits infection and reproduction of H1N1 virus.
  • Lipoproteins in Spirulina sensitize body towards any viral/bacterial attack alongwith reinforcing the immune system.
  • Spirulina contains several bio-available forms of the mineral Sulphur which is famous for improving the immune system, rapid healing, and the functionality of liver and pancreas.

Today, Metal toxicity inflicts us from every corner. From aluminium in deodorants to mercury in dental fillings or silver dust in sweets or zinc, iron in medications. Rapid Industrialization has increased the presence of heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead to mention a few) and its waste products in our daily life. Although several measures are in place to avoid these substances, but some exposure is inevitable. Since even small amounts of heavy metals in body can cause negative side effects like fatigue, headaches, digestive problems and skin conditions, it’s important to follow natural methods to cleanse your body of these toxins. So what better than detox with Spirulina and reap health benefits.

Why Spirulina is Effective for Heavy Metal Detox

The answer to natural metal detoxification is simply single-celled organism i,e Spirulina.. It is a micro-algae which has existed on earth since dawn of time. Spirulina was revered as powerhouse of nutrients in many civilizations and today it has elevated to “Superfood” for achieving overall health and well-being. Check our previous posts on health effects of Spirulina.

Spirulina is an effective chelating agent for removal of toxins as mercury and radioactive substances from the body. It is also used to remove cadmium and lead from waste industrial water.

While some detoxifying supplements simply release toxins from cells and tissues, “Prodiet” Spirulina is adept at binding to toxic metals and pushing it out of entire system. Spirulina contains naturally occurring proteins and peptides which bind to these toxins and carry them out of body. The chlorophyll in Spirulina also aids heavy metal detoxification.

Spiruilna Nutrition Rio

Wishing  #TeamIndia for #Rio2016. Make us proud #DikhaoDum.

With the biggest sporting event of the world – Rio Olympics, our team decided to let a big secret out. Athletes usually keep nutritional secrets well guarded. Won’t it be beneficial to know nutrition secrets of athletes, especially Spirulina Nutrition.

Super-foods have been around for decades now. They have become incredibly popular among athletes.  Athletes need to ingest food dense in nutrients to perform at their potential. And what’s better than Spirulina for their nutrient need.

Super-foods provide “clean” energy, increase stamina and extend endurance. They also contain large doses of anti-oxidants, vitamins & minerals. Moreover, they are source of natural goodies in natural and bio-available form.

Spirulina was declared as “food of the Future” by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation. Currently Spirulina is used by NASA in their space programs. According to a research conducted by NASA in 2012,one gram of algae has the nutritional equivalent of 1,000 grams of fruits and vegetables.

Spirulina for athletes in the Olympics!

According to Citybizlist (a US news and business website), Olympic athletes have for over four decades tapped into spirulina nutrition for energy gain, endurance and vitality. Nothing else matches spirulina incredible nutritional density.

One of the first athletes to link success to the super algae is Lee Evans –the four-time American gold medalist and four-time world records holder in track and field. Evans said spirulina nutrition improved my endurance & recovery. This gave me speed which resulted in my faster times.

Another country using the power of spirulina nutrition is China. China even has a spirulina farms only for its Olympic athletes. And, for the last 10 years, the Chinese Government has said its Olympic athletes take Spirulina. Several  elite groups such as Carnegie Institute, World Bank, have endorsed and recommend Spirulina as the most nutritionally dense food in the world. Researchers have shown that Spirulina is a powerhouse of nutrients, check our blog/reports.

 Why spirulina for athletes?

Spirulina turns out to be the most nutritionally dense, lowest calorie in the world. Spirulina has been shown to increase an athlete’s energy, endurance, speed and mental agility. It also helps prevent colds, stops hunger, reduces blood pressure, cholesterol and fatigue, improves digestion, helps with weight loss, removes toxins, balances blood sugar, builds the immune system and more. Spirulina is alkaline food and helps to regulate our internal pH. This is what makes it a best source for Athletes.

During intensive training athletes can experience non-anemic iron deficit, with clinical symptoms such as exhaustion and muscle fatigue. A 1998 study with male and female athletes taking spirulina for two months reported a significant increase in iron. Taking a few grams of spirulina per day is reported to increase optimal physical capacity. Studies on Spirulina supplementation reveal a significant increase in exercise performance and fat oxidation. A study showed reported the following after a week of Spirulina supplementation

  1. sportsmen felt more bouncy.
  2. better sleeping quality achieved.
  3. fatigue after physical load performance was less.
  4. recuperation processes became quicker,
  5. improved endurance when performing strength exercises.

All spirulina is not created equal. If you want to tap into the incredible power of spirulina nutrition make sure to only buy spirulina of the best quality.
